Active voice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Passive Voice. <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Active Voice:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In active voice, subject is the performer of the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Passive Voice:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In passive voice, subject is the receiver of the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Voice of Verbs:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voice describes the relationship between subject (doer) and object (receiver). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Passive is possible for transitive verbs only. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">What is Transitive Verb? \u00a0<\/mark>\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The verb, which has an object is called transitive verb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The verb which doesn\u2019t have object or objects is called intransitive verbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mamlabs.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/004.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9563\" width=\"753\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/004.jpg 548w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/004-300x153.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look at the following examples: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I play cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, I is the subject. Cricket is the object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Play is the transitive verb because it has the object &#8211; cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this sentence the subject \u2018I\u2019 performs the action of play. So, it is in active voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other way, we can rewrite the sentence in passive voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCricket is played by me\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, the subject cricket receives the action of the verb &#8211; play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the sentence is in passive voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We take another example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I played well yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The action verb &#8211; \u2018Play\u2019 explains the quality of performance of the subject &#8211; I.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there is no object. So, the verb \u2018play\u2019, though it is a transitive verb, used intransitively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we cannot express this sentence in passive voice because there is no object like \u2018cricket\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, we can define voice as a property which belongs to transitive verbs only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Basic Rules for Active Voice and Passive Voices:<\/mark><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Rules applicable for transforming active voice into Passive Voice and vice versa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mamlabs.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9567\" width=\"755\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/001.jpg 511w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/001-300x146.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 755px) 100vw, 755px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reference:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AV stands for Active Voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PV stands for Passive voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rule &#8211; 01:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subject and objects are interchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They watch action movies. (Active Voice).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Action movies are watched by them. (Passive Voice)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, they and action movies are the subject and objects respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And they are interchanged to change an AV sentence to PV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rule &#8211; 02:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018By\u2019 is placed before the agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Action movies are watched <strong><em>by <\/em><\/strong>them. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rule \u2013 03:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main verb in AV, irrespective of its form, is changed to past participle that is V<sub>3<\/sub> in passive sentences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I play cricket. (AV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cricket is played by me. (PV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here the main verb &#8211; play in AV sentence is in the present form (V<sub>1<\/sub>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In passive voice the verb \u2018played\u2019 (V<sub>3<\/sub>) is the past participle form of the basic verb &#8211; play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rule \u2013 04:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Different forms of the verb \u2018to be\u2019 are used as helping verbs (auxiliary verbs) before the V<sub>3<\/sub> form of the main verb in PV according to the tense of the AV sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Am, is, are, was, were, been, and being are the \u2018be\u2019 forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cricket is played by me (PV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The helping verb \u2018is\u2019 is one of the forms of the verb \u2018be\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is followed by the main verb \u2018played\u2019 which is the V<sub>3<\/sub> of the basic verb &#8211; play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rule \u2013 05:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nouns whether used as subjects or objects in AV do not change their form when they interchange their position in PV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jack loves pop music. (AV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pop music is loved by Jack. (PV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jack and pop music are nouns and they remained the same in both AV and PV sentences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rule \u2013 06:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of pronouns, we need to change them from subject case to object case according to their place in sentences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I called him in the morning. (AV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I\u2019 is the subject; and \u2018him\u2019 is the object form of \u2018He\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its passive structure is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was called by me in the morning. Simple Present Tense: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The active voice structure is: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subject + V<sub>1<\/sub> \/ V<sub>5<\/sub> + Object<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V<sub>1<\/sub> = the basic form of the verb; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V<sub>5<\/sub> = V<sub>1<\/sub> + s\/es<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The passive structure for this is: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subject + am\/is\/are + V<sub>3<\/sub> + by Object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They build houses. (AV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Houses are built by them. (PV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Simple past:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Structure: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subject + V<sub>2<\/sub> + Object<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They built this house.
